On Tuesday, April 29, the DataPortability Project received a Cease & Desist notice from Vivendi Mobile Entertainment regarding our new logo. Our lawyers, all volunteers working on a pro bono basis, are handling the issue. We expect a quick resolution.
The DataPortability Project remains committed to and focused on clarifying the issues around each user's ability to manage his or her own data. Results include the following.
- "Data portability" is in the technology community mainstream and has begun appearing on the radar screen of legacy media.
- The initiation of research into standards solutions and best practices.
- Best Practices Document 1 - Login and Discoveryhave been delivered in their first draft.
Branding the DataPortability Project is an important step in communicating our purpose, mission, and results in encouraging all volunteers -- individuals, startups and established players -- to join in probing all the technical aspects of data portability while moving the conversation forward.
We look forward to finalizing our symbol, but we're most excited about the work being done to make data portability a reality.
